Exploring St. Louis's Abandoned Skyscraper - Millennium Hotel
The Millennium Hotel in St. Louis began back in 1968, when the city wanted to modernize its riverfront next to the new Gateway Arch. It first opened as the Stuffer's Riverfront Inn, a tall, shiny 28-story tower with a revolving restaurant on top called Top of the Riverfront. It quickly became one of the most exciting places in the city, with people coming for dinners with 360-degree views, big events, and weekends on the riverfront. In 1974, a second, shorter tower was added, bringing the hotel to almost 800 rooms. For decades, it was one of the main hotels downtown-hosting conventions, weddings, proms, and tourists who wanted to stay right next to the Arch. Over the years the name and owners changed, and by 1999 it officially became the Millennium Hotel St. Louis. But over time, the building aged faster than it was maintained. Newer hotels opened, and the once-modern towers started to fall behind. By the early 2010s, the cost to update everything was too high, and in January 2014, the Millennium Hotel closed for good. It sat empty for years-dust gathering in the rooms, windows fogging over, mold spreading, and the famous rotating restaurant frozen in place. The hotel became one of the most visible abandoned buildings in the city, standing right next to the Arch. After years of sitting unused, the property was finally sold for redevelopment. In November 2025, demolition began. Crews started tearing down the towers floor-by-floor, removing asbestos and breaking apart the concrete that had stood there for nearly 60 years. today’s video is unlike any other. This is our sixth attempt at getting inside of this building over the past few years. as the building has been equipped with an incredible amount of cameras, and countless amount of security guards, some real, and some fake. But luckily, we were able to go a day that the cameras weren’t working. but we had to face a different challenge instead. The hotel that once symbolized St. Louis' future is now being cleared away to make room for something new—but its memories, its skyline presence, and its revolving restaurant in the sky will always be part of the city's story.
