Leyland 285 First Start | The 5.6L Six Cylinder Lives Again

This episode marks a major milestone in the Leyland 285 restoration from our workshop in West Cork, Ireland. After rebuilding and reassembling the tractor over the previous episodes, the final fluids are filled, a new battery and cables are fitted, and the Leyland is wheeled outside for its first proper engine start. With the fuel system already bled and everything prepared, the engine fires almost immediately. Running without the exhaust fitted allows the full sound of the Leyland 5.6 litre six cylinder engine to be heard clearly — smooth, clean and with very little smoke. A few small leaks are identified and repaired during testing, including a crack in the high-pressure filter housing, but overall the first start goes far better than expected. This episode is mostly about enjoying the sound of the engine finally running again after all the work that has gone into the rebuild so far. 🔧 Leyland 285 Restoration Playlist:    • Leyland 285 Restoration   New videos every Friday (Mostly).
