A photographer friend of mine very kindly invited me to attend la charreada. For those of you who don’t habla español, that’s Spanish for “the charreada.” Good Chris Farley reference there, Nick. For the 3 people that actually read the descriptions on my videos, I hope you enjoyed that. If you don’t know the reference, track down the video “Chris Farley el nino”. Still makes me laugh. Anyway, back to me. So I went to a Mexican rodeo (una charreada). Sure, sure, it wasn’t actually in Mexico but the Clásico de las Américas in Pico Rivera, California is authentic nonetheless. Like “I needed a translator for most of it” kind of authentic. I brought some Kodak Portra 400, Portra 800, and a roll of CineStill 800T along with two incredibly impractical cameras for photographing a rodeo: a Fuji GW690II and a Shen Hao TFC 617-A. So, 6x9 and 6x17. Needless to say, I didn’t take a ton of photos. But the photos I did take I think came out pretty cool. In this video I’ll share my lessons learned from the experience. Nothing groundbreaking, really, but just some things I gotta keep in mind on my next charreada. So you know, don’t get too excited. By the way, I considered doing a full-blown on-location video for this little excursion, but it wasn’t in the cards. I hope you enjoy the little on-location scenes sprinkled in, though.
