GForce Prophet-5: Is This the Best Prophet-5 Plugin Ever?

The first official Sequential Prophet 5 plugin is finally here — and GForce Software may have just made one of the most important vintage synth recreations yet. In this video, I take a first look at the brand new GForce Prophet-5, the official software recreation of the legendary Sequential Circuits Prophet-5. Originally designed by Dave Smith and John Bowen in 1978, the Prophet-5 is one of the most important analog polysynths ever made, heard across decades of synthpop, new wave, film scores, industrial, electronic music, ambient, and beyond. GForce Prophet-5 recreates the classic Prophet-5 Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 character, including the SSM 2040 filter sound of the early revisions and the Curtis CEM 3320 filter sound of the Rev3. It also expands the original Prophet-5 concept with dual-layer architecture, split and layer modes, Prophet-10-style operation, MPE support, redesigned X-Modifiers, modern modulation, arpeggiators, chord modes, studio effects, and over 460 presets. In this demo and review, I walk through several of the Prophet-5 patches I designed for the factory library, including ambient pads, Silent Hill-inspired textures, vintage synth sounds, filter FM, pulse-width modulation, dual-layer Prophet stacks, rhythmic modulation, and cinematic analog-style patches.
