Before starting this project, I was planning to soundproof the entire room and even drew up blueprints, so it took a while to get started. I'm not too concerned about outside-to-inside noise, but I do want to minimize inside-to-outside sound leakage. While I'm working on this project, I'm finding myself feeling stressed about the volume of noise. I started by researching exactly what soundproofing actually means and learning the difference between sound-absorbing and sound-blocking materials. When I turned the screwdriver without any sound, the noise level was 87dB. Apparently, 80dB is like the inside of a subway car. 90dB is like the inside of a noisy factory. Apparently, 60dB is like the sound of a washing machine, and 70dB is like the chirping of cicadas. 50dB is like the sound of an indoor air conditioner, so that's the level I'm aiming for. I'll be using sound-absorbing materials in my next soundproof room, so I'm looking forward to seeing how low I can lower the noise.
