HUMBLE Sideman in America’s #1 Band Became The ShowStopper on This 70s Classic | Professor of Rock

It should’ve been the zenith of his career… On a fateful night backstage in Knoxville, Tennessee in the summer of ’77… Instead…it was a coup de grace that led to his exit from the supergroup he helped create. Randy Meisner of the Eagles was allegedly too sick to sing his encore spotlight classic rock hit Take it To The Limit with its legendary high note finale. He and Glenn Frey got into a shouting match backstage on the Hotel California tour that night and it got really ugly when Randy punched Glenn in the face. Police tried to break it up but Don Henley called them off. The story behind the song that was the crowning achievement for one of the most beautiful voices of the 70s, and the infamous incident that centered around one of the most recognizable songs in Classic Rock history that sealed this artist’s fate as a member of one of America’s greatest bands… and a tribute to the late country-rock pioneer who’s high harmony helped bring so much depth to Eagles classics like Take It Easy and Witchy Woman is next on Professor of Rock Thank you to this Episodes Sponsor, Zenni GET ZENNI Glasses HERE: https://imp.i279709.net/vn5gLd ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Executive Producer Brandon Fugal Honorary Producers Norman Buchwald, Cliff Konstans, Steve DocPinko Cloutier, Jenny Blaxell, Jason Elliott, Travis Stephenson, D. This show honors songs that were so unbelievably great, they absolutely should've been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. But for whatever reason, be it radio play, lack of marketing, label support, or just sheer stupidity, the song came up short. On previous episodes, we have covered Sara by Fleetwood, Reelin In the Year by Steely Dan, and Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. Today it’s a band who has had their share of #1 hits but this is one that is a no-brainer and one of their most beloved songs… it comes from the amazing Eagles… again One of the most successful bands of the Rock Era, was also one of the most tumultuous. During the group’s rise to international superstardom, the clashes between the band members were legendary, especially between the four co-founders of the group: Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. Leadon couldn’t stomach the constant friction and hated the musical evolution of the band away from its country-rock roots. His discontent came to a head in 75 during one of those notorious backstage blowouts when he got into a heated argument with Frey and poured a bottle of beer over Glenn’s head. Bernie thought a few months' hiatus from the Eagles would smooth things over, but the rest of the band vetoed, and Leadon was gone shortly after the dousing. Two years later, tired from non-stop touring and nonstop fighting, Randy Meisner, snapped and had his infamous altercation with Glenn Frey that led to HIS departure from the Eagles at the end of the Hotel California Tour.
