We compared the two models since each took office—Lula in January 2023, Milei in December 2023—using ten indicators. Manufacturing production: Argentina -10.1%, Brazil +2.4%. Cumulative growth 2024-2025: 3.1% versus 5.8%. Foreign direct investment (ECLAC): US$3 billion in Argentina, a drop of over 84%, compared to US$77 billion in Brazil. Formal private sector employment: 235,000 fewer jobs here, 5.4 million more there. Unemployment: 7.8% and rising in Argentina, 5.6% and falling in Brazil. Informal employment: 44.2% here, 37.3% there. Real registered private sector wages: -3.6% versus +8.4%. Minimum wage: -39.3% versus +11.5%. Year-on-year inflation: 33.5% versus 4.64%. The only indicator where Argentina performs better is the primary balance: +1.4% of GDP versus -0.4% for Brazil. Brazil is our main trading partner in imports and exports, and the primary destination for our manufactured goods, starting with the automotive industry.
