Viva Sao Joao | Traditional Sao Joao Celebrations From The Past | Goa

The feast of São João is a celebration of the birthday of St. John the Baptist. St. John was the son of St. Elizabeth, a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus. This feast is celebrated on 24 June. Sao Joao is celebrated in Goa by Christian community by leaping into domestic wells and water bodies paying tribute to St John the Baptist. This year (2020) there are no community celebrations due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless there is festive mood in the hearts of Goans.
