“Chasing Legacy” the debut solo cd of Kupu’eu Dalire-Na’auao reveals the deep connection Kupu has to his Hawaiian culture. The eldest son of Kumu Hula and Miss Aloha Hula, Kau’i Dalire and Multi Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winner, Sean Na’auao, the standards and expectations set forth early in his life has always been high. At age 15, he became a two-time Na Hoku Hanohano award winner with his former group, Hu’ewa. Kupu relies on the foundation laid before him to uplift this new generation. A very special duet with his late tutu and hula master Aloha Dalire will bring tears of joy with his rendition of “Nani Hanalei.” His single, “Waolani” as well as “Maile Beauty” and “He Mele No Pi’apa” are written by award winner Frank Kawaikapukalani Hewett, mother and son collaborations showcase his upbringing in the hula and music worlds, and some favorite oldies but goodies round out the song selections. It is difficult to imagine the pressure one experiences growing up in a family like this, but as his mother, I could not be more proud of how he has dealt with all the obstacles he has faced to get to this point in his career. I also know that both his tutu and his younger brother, Kahiau are also very proud of him.
