DIY: How To Change Transmission Fluid Chevy Volt 2016-2019 5ET50 Drive Unit

I'll show you how to change your transmission fluid on your 2016 2017 2018 2019 Chevrolet Volt 5ET50 drive unit. Easy job to do at your own home. Avoid dealerships and save money! You will need a scanner as you will need to read the transmission temperature. 1. Drain the transmission fluid using the drain bolt under the transmission (drive unit). 2. Remove the level plug on the driver side of the transmission (drive unit). You will need to remove the driver side wheel/tire for this. 3. After draining as much as you can. Reinstall the drain bolt. 4. Remove the fill cap on the top of the transmission (drive unit) and add Dexron VI. You will need about a gallon to do this job, so you may as well get a little more than that for spilling. 5. Add Dexron VI a little at a time until it begins to come out the level hole. You will now need to start the engine and run until the transmission (drive unit) reaches around 113* F. If the hood is open, this will happen as soon as you start the Volt. 6. Add a little more Dexron VI until it slowly begins to come out the level hole. Shift through the gears from Park to Drive a couple times. Check the fluid level again. It is full when the fluid slowly seeps out the level hole. 7. Reinstall the level hole bolt/plug, fill cap, and wheel/tire. 8. Have some refreshments! You just saved yourself a ton of money over the dealerships!
