How many things do you know but have never seen in person? You've read a thousand books and heard a thousand stories, so you can say you know quite a bit about that topic, that writer, that city. Yet, would you say the same thing about a blind person telling you what color a sunset is? They've never seen it, so they don't know it. Is that true? Our society is permeated with images, static or moving, photographs or illustrations; appearances dominate in a fashion magazine as well as in a political campaign. Yet perhaps we place too much importance on seeing, which often doesn't equate to looking, to knowing. Thanks to the generous support of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Pordenone, we were able to glimpse into the daily lives of some blind people and those who help them overcome the challenges of their daily lives.
