The President of the Republic, Mr. Romuald Wadagni, received Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, in audience at the Marina Palace on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. On an official visit to Benin for the seventh session of the Benin-Morocco Joint Cooperation Commission, the Moroccan Foreign Minister reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening a partnership based on friendship, solidarity, and common strategic interests. Following his meeting with the Head of State, Mr. Nasser Bourita indicated that he had conveyed to President Romuald Wadagni the fraternal greetings of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as well as his determination to reinforce the already strong bilateral cooperation. He also conveyed the Kingdom of Morocco's congratulations on the smooth conduct of the recent elections in Benin and commended the performance of the Beninese economy, which he described as a model of stability and resilience in West Africa. Discussions also focused on prospects for deepening economic cooperation between the two countries. According to the Moroccan Minister, both sides intend to revitalize their partnership through greater involvement of the private sector, increased mobilization of relevant ministries, and the implementation of high-impact projects. The goal is to capitalize on the excellent relations between Cotonou and Rabat to create more development opportunities for the benefit of both nations. The regional security context also featured prominently in the discussions. Mr. Nasser Bourita emphasized that he and the President of the Republic had discussed the challenges related to instability in the Sahel and the fight against terrorism. Faced with these shared threats, both countries wish to strengthen their cooperation and promote better African coordination in order to preserve peace, security, and stability in the sub-region. This meeting is part of the ongoing high-level political dialogue between Benin and the Kingdom of Morocco. It reflects the shared commitment of President Romuald Wadagni and His Majesty King Mohammed VI to elevate bilateral cooperation to a higher level, building on economic, diplomatic, and security partnerships capable of addressing current challenges and fulfilling the development aspirations of both nations.
