In this video, we present a new hybrid solar inverter from the Growatt brand, a very interesting grid-connected model that offers the option of working with 48V batteries for self-consumption. This specific model is the Growatt SPH3000 Hybrid Inverter. As its name suggests, it can offer up to 3000W of maximum output power, making it the entry-level model in the SPH single-phase hybrid range. This is a classic grid-connected solar inverter with two MPPTs, but its key feature is that it can work with 48V lithium-ion or lead-acid batteries. This makes it a perfect hybrid inverter for grid-connected self-consumption solar installations where we want to store surplus production for later use and further reduce electricity bills. Another notable feature is that it includes an EPS emergency output, providing emergency power in the event of a grid outage. With a maximum output power of 3000W, regardless of the model, it would operate equivalently to an off-grid model. For this functionality, the system would need to be complemented with a contactor. Returning to the range itself, Growatt's Hybrid SPHs are available in 3, 4, 5, and 6kW models. They all share the same design and dimensions. They feature two independent MPPT regulators and work with the same panel input voltage ranges. The MPPT operating range starts from 150 to 550V with a maximum input current of 12A for each input. One of the most notable features of this Growatt hybrid solar inverter, as we mentioned, is its emergency backup output. This is activated when there is a grid failure, with the inverter producing the electrical wave from the accumulated power in the batteries. This output can supply a maximum of 3000W of power, regardless of the inverter model. To prevent any problems when the power supply is restored, a contactor must be installed to switch between the grids and prevent any problems from occurring. Another advantage is that it incorporates an integrated wattmeter, which also includes the toroidal measurement clamp with the solar inverter. This is a much simpler installation but is also compatible with a traditional wattmeter if it is installed far from the service connection where the clamp is to take the reading. The data collected by the inverter will be available on the Growatt website, through which we can access information regarding production, self-consumption, and the use of our grid-connected solar installation. Regarding its features, the Growatt hybrid inverter is capable of charging and discharging the battery connected to it at a maximum current of 66 A. It is compatible with 48 V systems and can even connect lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries. With the latter, we recommend using Pylontech models that communicate between the two components. Thanks to this, we can establish usage and discharge settings, forcing the battery to discharge to a certain percentage at most and recharging exclusively from surplus solar production. If we wish, we can also charge from the grid if we have an hourly rate that suits us. The great advantage of this hybrid inverter model, working with 48V Pylontech batteries, is that we can install it in stages, breaking up the investment required for a self-consumption system.
