Heat and Moisture WITHOUT a Humidifier?? CPAP HME Filters Explained

Heat and moisture are vital when it comes to CPAP sleep therapy to avoid common side effects like a dry airway. But did you know that you don't need a CPAP machine with a humidifier to enjoy warm air as you breathe into your CPAP mask? Heat and Moisture Exchange filters - or HME filters - use the heat and moisture in your own breath during exhalation to reintroduce that when you inhale. These are commonly used with travel CPAP devices like the ResMed AirMini or the Transcend Micro where humidifiers would add too much size and weight for a portable device. HME filters can have brand names like HumidX (ResMed) or AirMist (Transcend) but their functionality is the same. Note, that you will not receive the same level of heat and moisture when using a HME filter over a CPAP machine with a designated humidifier, but it will make a noticeable difference against therapy without any form of humidity introduction.
