The TV Sucesso report, conducted by correspondents Emerson Joaquim and Nórcio Júnior, reveals the reality of female prisoners in Nampula who live with their babies inside the penitentiary. Some women, detained for crimes such as homicide, report that they were arrested while pregnant and, due to the need to breastfeed, remain with their children. The prison administration confirms that the law guarantees mothers the right to live with their children until they are three years old. However, for many of them, the experience is painful and filled with regret. In an interview with our cameras, one of the inmates stated that prison taught her life lessons and that she regrets the mistakes she made. Despite the difficulties, women deprived of their liberty benefit from legal, psychological, and material support, as well as various training programs. The administration also guarantees special care for mothers and babies, including supplemental feeding and nutritional monitoring. Nazira Abdula, wife of the governor of Nampula, visited the facility and assured that the government has been monitoring the situation of mothers and children. He also offered sewing materials, food products, and other essential items to the inmates.
