Mozu par massah ho jata.?🤔ablution on socks 🧦 is acceptable.? Dr. Farhat Hashmi
Dr. Farhat Hashmi, an Islamic scholar known for her teachings on Islamic jurisprudence, has addressed the concept of performing ablution (wudu) while wearing socks in her lectures. According to Islamic law, performing ablution (wudu) involves washing specific body parts, including the hands, mouth, face, and feet. However, when a person is wearing socks, there is a provision in the Islamic tradition known as "masah al-khuffayn," which allows a person to wipe over the socks instead of washing the feet during ablution. Dr. Farhat Hashmi explains that the permissibility of wiping over the socks is based on authentic Hadiths, specifically the narration from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who allowed his companions to wipe over their leather socks (khuffs) rather than remove them and wash their feet during wudu. This practice is a concession in Islam, especially for ease and convenience, provided certain conditions are met. Conditions for Wiping over Socks (Masah al-Khuffayn): The socks should be made of a material that is solid enough to cover the foot and provide protection (like leather or thick fabric). Thin socks or those that cannot provide adequate coverage or protection may not qualify. The socks should be worn after performing a complete wudu. The individual must have already washed their feet during the initial wudu before putting on the socks. The wiping should be done within a set time frame after wearing the socks. For men, it is permissible for 24 hours, and for women, it is 72 hours, starting from the time of the first wudu after putting the socks on. How to Perform the Wiping (Masah): One should wipe over the upper surface of both socks with wet hands, from the toes to the ankles. The wiping should be done with a light touch, not a thorough scrubbing. It is not necessary to remove the socks to perform this action; they remain on the feet during the ablution. Dr. Farhat Hashmi emphasizes that this practice is a mercy from Allah, making it easier for Muslims, particularly when traveling or in situations where removing socks is impractical or inconvenient. However, she also advises people to make sure that they meet the conditions and understand the rules properly, as some misconceptions about wiping over socks might arise, especially in modern times when materials and types of socks can vary widely. By following the guidelines mentioned in the Qur'an and Hadiths, Muslims can benefit from this flexibility while ensuring their ablution remains valid.
