This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker. This Core Concept video focuses on Rene Descartes' work, The Meditations, specifically on meditation 3 and the distinction he makes between three kinds of ideas, based upon the origins of those ideas. Innate ideas are those that we are born with, i.e. they are part of our human nature. Adventitious ideas are those that come to us from something or somewhere else. Produced ideas are those that are generated by the activities of our own mind working upon its other ideas. If you'd like to support my work producing videos like this, become a Patreon supporter!
