Experimental GPR at the 1608 Palisade - Dig Deeper, Episode 43

Jamestown Rediscovery Director of Archaeology, David M. Givens and Peter Leach, (Archaeology and Forensics Application Specialist, GSSI, Inc) explore the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to digitally trowel one of the earliest features built by English settlers, i.e., the 1608 Palisade Wall at James Fort. In this video, David Givens describes the physical location and appearance of this early defensive structure. Peter Leach then explains how GPR can find archaeological features before they are excavated. To learn the best way to collect GPR results, David and Peter experiment with 2 different frequency GPR instruments, each set in two different antenna orientations (i.e., normal and cross-polarization).
