In today’s experiment, I tried hooking up a 1 TB Corsair MP600 Mini NVMe drive to the Switch 2 using an open-source SDEX2M2 adapter by NVNTLabs. I had JLCPCB fabricate the custom PCBs (5 boards for just $2!), and after intense soldering, inserted the SSD formatted to exFAT. This was Part 1 of the test: a proof of concept. Next up: a new adapter with the necessary controller logic, along with professionally assembled boards from JLCPCB to rule out soldering issues. Stay tuned for Part 2! This experiment shows the huge potential of Switch 2’s microSD Express port—if we can crack the handshake, we could finally get cheap, fast 1 TB+ SSD storage on a handheld console.
