Neurocognitive Robot-Assisted Rehabilitation of Hand Function with the ReHapticKnob

A majority of stroke survivors are left with chronic impairment of the hand, limiting their independence in daily life. Robotic tools can help increase the dose of therapy, continuously monitor the abilities and performance of the patient, and thereby better target specific impairments. We propose a robotic device for hand therapy together with a therapy concept that takes full advantage of the capabilities of robotic systems, in order to train both sensory and motor function of the hand in the context of cognitively challenging tasks. This is a first step towards minimally supervised therapy in the clinic and at home.
