Eine lange Geschichte und jede Menge Kultur treffen sich in der Mittelalterstadt Eggenburg am Übergang vom Waldviertel ins Weinviertel. Die im Bezirk Horn in Niederösterreich gelegene Stadtgemeinde hat aktuell rund 3.500 Einwohner. Unser Film entstand im Jahr 1973 und geizt nicht mit nostalgischen und detaillierten Eindrücken aus dem Zentrum Eggenburgs. Um 1140 datieren urkundliche Nennungen von „Egenburch” und „Egenenburg”. Damals wird der Bau der Stadtmauer abgeschlossen, mit der romanischen Kirche um 1180 ist die Burgstadt errichtet – aus dieser Zeit zeugen die beiden Türme. Die Stadt blüht im 16. Jahrhundert auf. Dem weißen in Zogelsdorf gebrochenen Sandstein verdankt Eggenburg zur Barockzeit seinen Reichtum. Der Hauptplatz steht auch im Zentrum der Aufnahmen: Ein fünfeckiger Platz mit gotischen Giebelhäusern, Pranger, Martinsbrunnen, Mariensäule und barocker Pestsäule. Die Stadtmauer mit dem Zinnenkranz demonstriert auf zwei Kilometern die Bedeutung mittelalterlicher Befestigungen mit Pechnasen, Schießscharten, Zwingermauern, Wehrtürmen und dem Bergfried (12. Jahrhundert). Beschützt von der Wehranlage: Bürgerhäuser, Denkmäler und Stadtkirche St. Stephan. Auch das Krahuletz Museum ist zu sehen. Es behandelt 1 Milliarde Jahre Erdgeschichte im Waldviertel und 20 Millionen Jahre Eggenburger Meer. Die archäologische Sammlung reicht von der Ur- und Frühgeschichte bis ins Frühmittelalter. The municipality, located in the Horn district in Lower Austria, currently has around 3,500 inhabitants. Our film was made in 1973 and is not stingy with nostalgic and detailed impressions from the center of Eggenburg. Documented mentions of "Egenburch" and "Egenenburg" date from around 1140. At that time the construction of the city wall was completed, with the Romanesque church around 1180 the castle town was built - the two towers testify to this time. The city flourished in the 16th century. Eggenburg owes its wealth to the white sandstone broken in Zogelsdorf during the Baroque period. The main square is also in the center of the shots: a pentagonal square with Gothic gabled houses, pillory, Martin's fountain, Marian column and baroque plague column. The city wall with the crenellated wreath demonstrates the importance of medieval fortifications with machicolation, loopholes, kennel walls, defensive towers and the keep from the 12th century. Protected by the fortifications: town houses, monuments and the town church of St. Stephan. The Krahuletz Museum can also be seen. It covers 1 billion years of geological history in the Waldviertel and 20 million years of the Eggenburg Sea. The archaeological collection ranges from prehistory and early history to the early Middle Ages.
