Inside a Model A Ford AOOGA Klaxon Horn with Doc | Doc Physics
My uncle gave me a horn, made by E.A. Laboratories, Inc. in the 1930s, that makes that Ah-Ooh-Gah sound. I think it's called a klaxon, which means it's related to those twirly wood things I played with as a kid. As you spun the thing around by holding the handle, the stationary gear at the center would repeatedly pluck a thin piece of wood to make it vibrate and sound out. Awesome. This is just a 6V - 12V DC motor and an amplifying horn attached to one of those things.
