We Had to Add MORE Shade to Our Chicken Tractors! ☀️🐔

This week brought some serious summer heat to Growing Roots Farm, so it was time to make changes for our pasture-raised Cornish Cross chickens. In this video I show how we added additional shade to our chicken tractors to help keep the birds cooler during the hottest part of the day. I also give an update on how the flock is growing, how they're handling the heat, and what we're watching as temperatures continue to climb. Managing chickens on pasture means constantly adapting to weather conditions, and sometimes small changes can make a big difference. If you're raising meat chickens on pasture, hopefully this video gives you a few ideas for managing extreme summer temperatures. If you enjoy regenerative agriculture, rotational grazing, raising livestock, and following our family's farming journey, be sure to subscribe! 👍 Like the video if you found it helpful. 💬 Let us know how you help your chickens beat the heat. 🔔 Subscribe for new farm videos every week! **Connect with us! The hubby and I went into debt to finance college educations in order to obtain careers in the "safe" field of healthcare. It wasn't until afterwards that we realized that the supposed safety came with many strings that began to strangle us. As our family grew, the demands on our time and energy were pulled towards a healthcare system that valued money over people. We felt overwhelmed, helpless and stressed. We wanted more. We wanted more time, more health, more family, more happiness. We were tired of giving our best energy to someone else with subpar results. We tried to change the system from within but found that we could make more of a difference on the outside. We began by starting to fix things for ourselves and our immediate family. We moved away from traditional education and decided to homeschool. This gave us flexibility with schedule and more time together as a family. The time is precious, and we love homeschooling. We purchased a small farm. We want to be good stewards of the land that we inhabit. We want to give back to the earth more than we take from it. We are practicing methods that encourage nutrient enhancement of the soil rather than depletion. We are improving our composting methods and rotational grazing skills. As we started making these changes, the kids thrived and were excited to expand the project beyond even our imaginations. They are now active participants in this life adventure that we have named Growing Roots Farm. #pastureraised #cornishcross #chickens #regenerativeagriculture #homestead #farming #chickentractor #growingrootsfarm #kentuckyfarm #backyardfarming pasture raised chickens Cornish Cross chickens chicken tractor chicken tractor shade keeping chickens cool raising meat chickens heat stress in chickens summer chicken care pasture poultry regenerative farming rotational grazing homestead chickens Kentucky farm small farm Growing Roots Farm farm vlog chicken update raising broilers broiler chickens livestock farming
