This student lecture from the "Introduction to the History of European Art and Culture" series is dedicated to the monuments of Ravenna from the 5th and 6th centuries. These include the Mausoleum of Theodoric the Great, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the churches of San Vitale, Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, and Sant'Apollinare in Classe. Arseniy DEZHUROV is a philologist and art historian, a lecturer at Moscow State Pedagogical University, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and the Institute of Railway Transport. He regularly participates in archaeological excavations of ancient Greek cities in the Northern Black Sea region. The course "Introduction to the History and Theory of Culture" is designed for two years (four semesters). The lectures, presented in accessible language, explore the patterns of development of world civilization. These lectures will be of interest not only to students but also to a wide range of audiences interested in cultural issues.
