The "bearings" face directly onto the Ti. They may roll or simply skiff along while the blade opens. Over time they may scratch a track into the Ti. This probably won't be a big deal as the scratch will hardly be noticeable. CRKT has a similar system where the cage sits inside the Ti and the balls roll on the blade, this would greatly reduce wear on the actual knife as the balls would wear before the blade steel. This would result in zero wear on the tool itself.
