Every bill in the Maine Legislature... 2,200-plus this past term... runs through the revisor's office. Here's how it works: a legislator has an idea, the revisor's office researches existing law, then drafts the bill to amend current statute rather than duplicate it. Even model legislation borrowed from other states has to be rewritten from scratch to fit Maine law.
