I called down fire from the sky I ran till my legs gave out and I Fell beneath a juniper tree And told the Lord that He could take me I’d had enough of fighting alone Every victory felt like stone The prophets gone, the altar ash And everything I built had passed I closed my eyes and said “It is enough” I’ve given all I had And it was never enough Let me sleep, let me sleep Under this juniper tree I am done, I am spent There is nothing left in me But something touched my shoulder in the dark And said “Get up, the journey’s still too far” Bread on the coals, water by my head Even exhausted souls still need to be fed I walked forty days on that one meal Through the desert learning how to feel Small again, not the man of fire Just a voice that had grown tired I hid inside a mountain cave Convinced that I was all that stayed “What are you doing here, Elijah?” A question soft as morning air I poured it out like I always do “I’m the only one, and I’m tired too” But the wind tore through and the earthquake came And then — silence — and He spoke my name Let me sleep, let me sleep Under this juniper tree I am done, I am spent There is nothing left in me But something touched my shoulder in the dark And said “Get up, the journey’s still too far” Bread on the coals, water by my head Even exhausted souls still need to be fed He didn’t come in the fire this time Not the wind, not the earthquake’s roar Just a still small voice at the mouth of the cave Like He’d been waiting there before “What are you doing here?” Not angry — just asking “What are you doing here?” Like He already knew Sometimes the holiest thing you can do Is just… tell Him the truth He didn’t fix me in a day He said “Get up, go back the way You came — there’s work and there is rest And seven thousand you don’t know yet” I wasn’t the last one standing there I was just the one who forgot That grace finds you under juniper trees In the places you’d rather not So I’ll sleep, I will sleep Under this juniper tree I am weak, I am small But You still come for me You touch my shoulder in the dark and say “Get up, beloved, there’s still another day” Bread on the coals, water by my head You never let the weary go unfed Even Elijah hit the ground… Even Elijah made a sound… “It is enough”… “It is enough”… #theBible #Elijah
