After sharing a warm hug and taking a seat in a bright little room at the Warner offices, we asked him to outline the timeline of the composition process for his new album, 'KM 0'. His eyes look upward and his eyelids close slightly as he looks back, he takes a breath, and gives an initial answer lasting almost five minutes. "Starting at the end of 2023, a lot of things started happening in my life," the Malaga-born artist begins. "I finished the Spanish tour, and when I was about to start the US tour, I found out that things were starting to shake at home. A family member was in bad shape, undergoing chemotherapy and myelosuppression, and a bone marrow transplant. Knowing that, I had to go on tour. Since we couldn't do anything, I decided to go on tour. And let's just say that tour helped the research. Because that was my goal, that if I had to leave, at least it would have some meaning. From that moment on, he began to "feel a lot of things," Alborán says. "First, having to leave when things weren't good at home. And at the same time, leaving was a salvation because my mind was active, having to do something, being busy. Because I couldn't have done anything here; they were looking for a transplant, and there was no point in staying here. We were waiting. So, learning for the first time in my life something I've always feared enormously—that something might happen when I'm not there, which is something those of us who travel constantly have to deal with—that shook me. The concept of my profession, my job, money... everything. From then on, inspiration began to awaken without me knowing it. And when I returned from the United States, the concepts of life, death, illness, health... everything started to emerge. And that was a heavy breeding ground.
