Prism - PRISM (1977) [Full Album] 2003 SACD 5.1 Mix

In 2003, the eponymous album by Jazz Fusion band Prism was released as part of a series of high quality SACD remasters from the first iteration (Prism trilogy and Live) of the band's discography. This release strays from the pack however, as alongside the high quality DSD remaster it also included a 5.1 Multichannel mix. According to the engineer, this was the first ever 5.1ch release for a 70s Japanese rock album (lol). This mix makes for a very interesting listen even when downmixed to stereo as heard here, with many parts phasing between channels for the surround effect on 5.1, and an overall brighter clarity when compared to the rather muddy mix of the original master. There are some downsides to this mix too when listening here in stereo (e.g. it's a little overblown, some quiet instruments, unusual echo effects), but regardless it's pretty dope to hear this classic with a fresh coat of paint. The opening track 'Morning Light' even has a couple extra seconds of music at the end which is cool to hear.
