Sakurajima (Sakurajima), Kagoshima Prefecture, Kagoshima City Sakurajima is an active volcano located in Kagoshima Bay (Kinko Bay), nestled between the Satsuma and Osumi Peninsulas of Kagoshima Prefecture. It continues to erupt repeatedly. Sakurajima can be reached in approximately 15 minutes by taking the "Sakurajima Ferry" connecting Kagoshima city center to the volcano. It can also be accessed from the Osumi Peninsula side, which became connected to the mainland after a major eruption in 1914.
