MACKINAW Ice Breaker Documentary (2006)
This documentary was produced in 2006 and released on Michigan PBS stations in 2007. It covers the last ice breaking mission of the World War II era Coast Guard Cutter MACKINAW (WAGB 83) in March of 2006. The documentary also covers the ice trials of her replacement, MACKINAW (WLBB 30). The ships were decommissioned and commissioned at the same ceremony in Cheboygan Michigan in June of 2006. The U.S. Coast Guard granted the crew complete access to both ships for this historic moment in Great Lakes shipping. The original MACKINAW is now a Maritime Museum in Mackinaw City, Michigan. It is open to the public from mid-May to mid-October. For more information please visit https://www.themackinaw.org or find them on Facebook at Mackinaw Maritime Icebreaker Museum.
