Walking around Notre-Dame Cathedral is like strolling through a living piece of Parisian history. Even before you get close, you can already see the towers appearing among the narrow streets of Île de la Cité. As you get closer, you can better appreciate the details of the gargoyles, arches, and sculptures—it's the kind of building that makes you imagine how many centuries have passed through it. The walk around it is super pleasant: on one side, you have the imposing cathedral; on the other, the Seine River flowing peacefully, with bouquinistes selling old books and postcards. At the back of the island, near the small garden behind the cathedral, the atmosphere becomes even calmer, with shaded benches and a beautiful view of the stained glass windows and buttresses.
