Kora is a harp-like instrument with 21 strings and traditionally the skill of playing is passed from father to son. The Jobarteh dynasty has a great reputation as renowned masters on this instrument. Defying tradition, Sona managed to become a pioneer in the traditional patriarchal heritage that was passed down from father to son over seven centuries. Sona is known for her instrumental skills, characteristic voice, infectious melodies and graciousness on stage, and she quickly achieved international success as a top performer.
