⁴ᴷ WMATA Metro Exhibit, Montgomery Ride-On & WMATA Action Extras (6/29/26)
Washington D.C. and the surrounding areas in the states of Maryland and Virginia serve one of if not the largest interconnected groups of different bus agencies connected by one general metro system, in which the rail system in question is represented in the year of 2026 for its 50 year anniversary, dating back to the Bicentennial where the system had opened for the first time with its groundbreaking technology and jaw-dropping architecture across the first metro line, the Red Line. At the American State Fair to celebrate the United States 250th anniversary of independence (which has been celebrated by WMATA using wraps & merchandise throughout the month of June, including wraps on Alstom 6000 Series cars & a WMATA New Flyer XD40 bus featured) , the first railcar delivered to WMATA being the Rohr, Inc. -built 1000 Series car numbered 1000 (which is supposed to be mated with car 1001) was cosmetically restored to be shown off to the public for the first time since it was retired from passenger service between 2016 and 2017 with the remainder of the WMATA 1000 Series fleet. At the same time, right next to this historically significant metro car was also Hitachi's final "draft" of the future 8000 Series cars, which are the next generation of WMATA's metro cars, meant to be the direct replacement to the mid-late 1980's era Italian-built Breda 3000 Series cars, as well as the already-retired 2000 Series cars that were taken out of service with a ceremonious final run in 2024. If options are picked up for it, they may also be applied to be the replacement of the late 2000's-built Alstom 6000 Series cars, which are the last railcars ever built using the original 1970's-era design language derived from the 1000 Series (in which the 6000's in question also had a mock front present adjacent to the 8000 Series mockup, paired with a mock New Flyer Xcelsior bus front numbered "2026" as well). Aside from the Metro Exhibit which gave fans and regular visitors alike a perfect look into the final looks of what the past and the future look like, regular service continues to move around the DMV area such as with Montgomery County's Ride-On bus services, which directly connect to WMATA consistently as well as connecting all throughout Montgomery County as a whole. Ride-On as an agency has continuously made efforts to continue to develop and grow as an agency with the transition from diesel & CNG-powered traditionally styled Gillig Low Floor buses to the much newer & improved all-electric Gillig Low Floor Plus fleets that have been a main staple of the agency's bus services since 2022, with orders specifications only improving for the reliability and passenger experience since then. As mentioned, connecting to WMATA's rail connects systems like Ride-On with the general downtown areas of Washington D.C., where the majority of major rail connections are made, especially for Amtrak in order to make intercity travels in and out of Washington D.C. to neighboring cities, but also including MARC and VRE for closer areas still related to the DMV area. #wmata 0:00 - American State Fair "Metro Exhibit" 1000 Series ft. 8000 Series Mockup 1:34 - WMATA & Montgomery Ride-On Action @ Silver Spring 3:07 - WMATA Red Line Action at NoMa-Gallaudet U Station 6:40 - 2022 New Flyer XD40 Wrapped for Semiquincentennial Video Clips Taken: June 29th, 2026.
