In April 2023, Coach Jun Akamine (40) was appointed the new head coach of the Yoshishikan High School baseball team. He left Meiho High School, where he had coached for many years, to return to his alma mater. 16 years ago... in 2007, Yoshishikan created a whirlwind by making it to the national top eight in their first appearance at the Summer Koshien. "Relive that excitement..." he said, as he embarked on a challenge to once again reach the hallowed ground with his alma mater's players. Just one week after he became coach, the Yoshishikan nine took on their first official game. They won the branch qualifiers and earned a spot in the prefectural championship for the first time in eight years. The team then embarked on their first trip to Shikoku.
