Love Your Enemies Part 1 - Pastor Clint Stasney

Who is your neighbor? And does God really expect us to love our enemies? In this powerful message from Matthew 5:43–47, we discover how Jesus challenged the popular beliefs of His day and revealed God's true standard for love. While many religious leaders taught people to love those within their own circles and reject their enemies, Jesus exposed this as a distortion of God's Word. The Old Testament never commanded hatred for enemies—instead, God's people were called to reflect His mercy and grace. Through the remarkable account of Elisha showing kindness to a blinded Syrian army and the well-known Parable of the Good Samaritan, we see a consistent biblical truth: genuine faith is demonstrated through mercy toward those who have no claim on our affection. The Samaritan's compassion toward a wounded stranger stands in stark contrast to those who passed by, reminding us that neighborly love is not based on convenience, agreement, or personal benefit. This sermon challenges us to examine our own hearts. Are there people we have excluded from our compassion? Are we willing to pray for those we disagree with, show kindness to those who oppose us, and love those who may never return the favor? Jesus calls His followers to a higher standard—one that reflects the character of our Heavenly Father. The question is not whether someone deserves our love, but whether we will obey God's command to love as He has loved us. 📖 Scripture: Matthew 5:43–47 #LoveYourEnemies #Matthew5 #GoodSamaritan #ChristianSermon #BibleTeaching #JesusChrist #FaithInAction #LoveYourNeighbor #BiblicalTruth #ChristianLiving
