In the manufacture of microcircuits, the photolithography method (projection, contact, etc.) is used, with the circuit being formed on a substrate (usually silicon) obtained by cutting silicon monocrystals into thin plates with diamond disks. Due to the small linear dimensions of the microcircuit elements, the use of visible light and even near ultraviolet radiation for illumination was abandoned. The minimum controlled dimensions of the photorepeater topology (contact windows in silicon oxide, the width of the gates in transistors, etc.) and, as a consequence, the dimensions of the transistors (and other elements) on the crystal are indicated as characteristics of the technological process of microcircuit production. This parameter, however, is interdependent with a number of other production capabilities: the purity of the resulting silicon, the characteristics of the injectors, the photolithography methods, the etching and sputtering methods.
