ACADEMY LIVE | Richard White - Composition & Visualizing the Image

Richard shoots on location at Lanercost Priory in Cumbria, guiding you through the process of shooting on 5x4 film, from visualization and composition through to capturing the final image. In this film we follow Richard as he tackles the difficult English weather to capture moody and evocative images around Cumbria’s Lanercost Priory. Richards initially starts undercover in the vaults surrounding the priory utilising the Fuji XE-1 to demonstrate how he looks for and composes the final image. He then shoots the image and explains the different considerations required when shooting Negative film rather than digital. Richard then moves into the central ruins where he covers how tonal range and colour can affect the choice as to whether an image should be black & white or colour.
