After Temesvár and Szolnok had already fallen, Eger appeared to be the next fortress in an expanding Ottoman advance. Inside the walls, István Dobó commanded fewer than two thousand soldiers, irregular fighters, townspeople, and civilians against an army many times larger. With no relief in sight, limited powder, and damaged fortifications, the defenders relied on discipline, preparation, rotating watches, night repairs, and a shared determination to hold. As Ottoman artillery battered the walls and infantry attacks pressed toward the breaches, the siege became a brutal test of endurance. Gergely Bornemissza’s fire pots, improvised barricades, civilian support, and the cohesion of the defenders turned Eger into something more than a defensive position. The fortress did not fall. The Ottoman army withdrew, the mining towns of northern Hungary remained secure, and Eger became a lasting symbol of how preparation, morale, and disciplined resistance could outlast overwhelming force. —— —— —— —— —— —— —— What you will learn in this video: • Why Eger mattered in the struggle for Hungary • How István Dobó prepared a fortress against impossible odds • What made Bornemissza’s fire pots so dangerous • How civilians helped keep the fortress alive • Why the Ottoman assault failed despite overwhelming numbers • What Eger’s survival meant for northern Hungary —— —— —— —— —— —— —— #BannerOfSteel #ReHistorica #BattleOfSteel #SiegeOfEger #OttomanEmpire #HungarianHistory #IstvanDobo #MedievalWarfare #MilitaryHistory
