We QUIT Normal Life For This
Two years ago, I quit our normal life in Ireland and moved to El Salvador to build an eco hostel from scratch with my brother. No experience running a business. No real construction plan. Just a field on a hillside, a shared dream, and probably more confidence than common sense. This video gives a glimpse of what a ‘Day in the Life’ building your dream actually looks like. We finished the floor outside the dorm, cleaned gutters, maintained the trees, fixed problems with the roof, created a bit more privacy in our makeshift dorm, serviced the chainsaw and even turned an old tree stump into a coffee table. The sort of jobs nobody puts in the brochure, but the sort of jobs that quietly move a project forward. I also give a proper tour of the rest of the property because I realised many of you have joined us recently and haven’t actually seen what we’re trying to build here in rural El Salvador. After all the graft, we headed to the beach for a surf and a sunset. It got me thinking about the question on the thumbnail. Was it worth it? Leaving behind stable salaries, family dinners, Saturday nights in the pub and the path we were expected to follow? I don’t know what the final answer is yet. The hostel still isn’t finished. There are days when this project feels impossible. But I do know that I’ve never felt more alive than when I’m covered in dirt at the end of a hard day’s work, building something I genuinely care about alongside people I love. Maybe that’s the point. If you’ve ever dreamed of doing something unconventional: starting a business, moving abroad, buying land, building an off-grid home, or simply choosing a different path, I hope this video gives you an honest look at what that decision actually involves. Thanks for following along. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or this is the first video you’ve watched, I appreciate you spending part of your day with us. If you enjoy the video, stick around. We’ve got five of our biggest videos yet on the way as we race to finish the hostel and finally open our doors. 🌴 Follow the journey: Instagram: @SalvadorValley 📍 Building an eco-hostel in El Salvador from scratch. #ElSalvador #HostelBuild #BuildingInPublic #OffGridLiving #DIYConstruction #TravelVlog #LifeInElSalvador #EcoHostel #LeavingTheRatRace #BuildYourDream
