The last manually operated elevator in Rhode Island
In the Irons & Russell Building on Chestnut Street in Providence, Danny Scott, 76, runs the last manually operated elevator in Rhode Island. He has been doing it for 23 years. He calls the elevator his "baby." The open-air, bird-cage style carriage speaks of times gone by when we relied on people for services that we now do ourselves with automated machines. Scott always has a good word for folks who prefer the ride instead of the walk. Providence Journal video by Sandor Bodo
