Episode 12 marks the beginning of the raw and rugged side of this overland journey through Laos, in my 35 year old Toyota Land Cruiser named Tara. After crossing over from Northern Thailand, I continue deeper into unfamiliar territory, adjusting to new roads, a slower pace of travel, and everything that comes with it. What was meant to be a short 50km drive quickly turned into a reminder that in Laos, distance means very little. Along the way, I arrive in Luang Namtha, a quiet town surrounded by mountains, where I take some time to slow down, explore on a bicycle, and observe everyday life beyond the road. But as the sun sets, a simple question lingers… where should I spend the night? What followed was something I wasn’t entirely sure about - camping beside a Buddhist stupa, in complete stillness, not knowing what to expect.
