Episode 5: 1930-1945 the Depression Era - WW2

The 1930s marked one of the most difficult periods in modern history. Beginning in the shadow of the Great Depression and the end of Prohibition in the United States, the decade ultimately gave way to the outbreak of the Second World War. Yet even in this turbulent era, some of the most remarkable ocean liners ever built were launched. A number of them also found use in the growing world of leisure cruising, adapting to changing economic and social conditions. In this episode, we explore how the roles of these great ships shifted as global conflict spread, and how the war ultimately led to the loss or repurposing of many of them.
