Job // Week 5 : Miserable Comforters

This week in our sermon, Pastor Brandon Bergvall focuses on the long conversations between Job and his three friends (Job 4-37). Although the friends genuinely wanted to comfort Job, they assumed his suffering must have been the result of hidden sin. Their belief was simple: God always blesses the righteous, always punishes the wicked, and therefore anyone suffering must deserve it. While parts of their theology were true -- God is sovereign, just, and sin does have consequences -- their conclusions were wrong because Job was innocent. Their faulty understanding of God caused them to add to Job's pain instead of comforting him. Pastor Brandon's sermon emphasizes that bad theology makes bad friends, warning that half-truths about God can be deeply damaging when applied without wisdom or compassion.  Website: redeemermidland.org Instagram: instagram.com/redeemermidland Facebook: facebook.com/RedeemerMidland At Redeemer, we seek to be a Gospel-Centered, Missional Family.
