Situada en el barranco de Arguineguín, la Presa de Soria comenzó su construcción en 1962 y su imponente muro alcanza los 120 m de altura, llegando a los 132 m si se incluyen los cimientos. Más de seis décadas después, esta infraestructura afronta una profunda transformación para adaptarse a los retos del futuro. El proyecto de adecuación tiene como objetivo modernizar la presa y su embalse para garantizar los máximos niveles de seguridad, cumplir con la normativa vigente y asegurar su operatividad durante las próximas décadas. Además de continuar desempeñando su función tradicional de almacenamiento de agua, la Presa de Soria pasará a formar parte del sistema hidroeléctrico reversible Chira-Soria, una de las iniciativas energéticas más relevantes de Canarias. Dentro de los trabajos de adecuación, ULMA participó en una de las intervenciones más relevantes del proyecto: la ampliación de los 15 m centrales de la coronación de la presa. Esta actuación permitió incrementar el ancho útil de la plataforma superior hasta los 10 m, frente a los aproximadamente 4 m disponibles hasta el momento, facilitando las futuras labores de operación y mantenimiento. More than six decades later, this infrastructure is undergoing a major transformation to meet the challenges of the future. The upgrading project aims to modernise the dam and its reservoir to ensure the highest levels of safety, comply with current regulations and guarantee its operation for the coming decades. In addition to continuing to fulfil its traditional water storage function, Soria Dam will become part of the Chira-Soria pumped-storage hydroelectric system, one of the most significant energy initiatives in the Canary Islands. As part of the upgrading works, ULMA participated in one of the most significant interventions of the project: the widening of the central 15 m section of the dam crest.
