From Wool to Hat: Wet Felting Meets Classical Millinery

Discover the restored Perfect Felt Hat course with German feltmaker and milliner Sigrid Bannier. This course is about the beautiful meeting point between wet felting and classical millinery. We begin with wool, colour, water, soap, shrinkage, and the making of a full capeline — a felted hat body with enough material for shaping the crown and brim. Then we enter the world of real hat making: stiffening, steam, wooden crown blocks, brim shaping, gimp, sweatbands, bias binding, and decorative finishing. In the full course, Sigrid demonstrates several felt hat models: a Fedora-inspired hat, a pair of companion hats with exchanged crowns, and a sculptural hat with a folded crown. This is not just about making a felted object that looks like a hat. It is about learning how handmade felt can become a real, wearable, beautifully finished hat. The restored Felting Academy edition includes the original video lessons, a new structured workbook, and a separate materials guide.
