Salomon S/Lab Phantasm Review: How Does Salomon’s Carbon Plate-Free Racer Stack Up?

In a marketplace now brimming with carbon plate racing shoes, the new Salomon S/Lab Phantasm stands out for the lack of a plate in its midsole. The Phantasm is a more traditional racing flat that focuses on trimming as much weight as possible while providing just enough cushioning to protect your legs without losing the feel for the road beneath your feet. There are some tweaks on the classic racing flat formula though, with a rocker design and a fancy foam called Energy Surge, which offers a decent amount of protection for your legs over long distances despite the Phantasm’s relatively low stack. Run Tester Nick has been putting the Phantasm through its paces with a series of long speed sessions, and he’s ready to deliver the verdict on how it stacks up against the competition.
