A primarily lyrical poet, which earned him the nickname "Poetinha" (Poetinha), coined by Tom Jobim, he became known for his sonnets. His work is vast, encompassing literature, theater, film, and music. Nevertheless, he always considered poetry his first and greatest calling, and that all his artistic activity stemmed from being a poet. In the musical field, Poetinha's main collaborators included Tom Jobim, Toquinho, Baden Powell, João Gilberto, Chico Buarque, and Carlos Lyra.
