MK6 VW TDI Straight pipe Exhaust Cut out
Car: 2012 Volkswagen Jetta TDI 6 speed [the daily driver] *Video to follow showing the cutout in action* Other mods: •Buzzken 2.5” downpipe/delete •Malone Stage 2 tune •Vibrant resonator and custom full mandrel bent 2.5” 409 stainless exhaust back •F18%/R5% tint •FrostHeater In this video is part of the process, and final product, of installing a Badlanz HPE electric exhaust cutout. I’m very happy with how it turned out. Initially i ran straight pipe all the way back and while it sounded great at idle, it was too loud for my liking over 2k RPM for daily driving. Also had a raspy sound for some reason. So I added the resonator in which makes it very tame but sounds nice in boost still. With the cutout open, it has a loud turbo whistle and gets rowdy in boost. The Badlanz cutout is very easy to install. The wiring is a breeze although you may need an extension cable if you have a long run from the cabin to the cutout. There also is a good warranty for the product. Any of the pieces are able to be bought to replace as well, which is convenient if something fails. HOW TO: You simply install by splicing the switch into the positive and negative wires of the 12V cigarette lighter or similar circuit. Then attach the switch where you’d like (keep in mind the wire lengths). I used a dremel to cut out a hole in one of the blank center console buttons. It fits the switch perfectly. I did have to pull the wires off the back of the switch to get it in there, so keep a drawing or picture of the wire orientation [there are 6 connections on the back of the little switch]. Then when you have the main wiring/switch installed, run the cable out of the cabin and down to where the cutout will be located. Securely zip tie the wires after the cutout is installed. To install the cutout itself, you can do a custom install by fabricating the exhaust, or use a clamp-in Y pipe which could be bought on eBay or Amazon. I fabbed up my own off-shoot from the downpipe and welded the flanges to it after doing a fit-up with the flanges lightly bolted to the valve. Note: I tried to use the factory exhaust valve first so the fitment isn’t perfect for this cutout..I would have liked to have exhaust tucked up higher but the big fat factory valve didn’t allow for that. The Badlanz is much smaller but is a bit long. This should work fine anyway. After that, just snug your bolts, but NOT too tight (40ft-lb max), connect the main cable and secure all wiring.
