Agency Controversy: National Assembly Divided Over PFIPC

Nigeria’s National Assembly is divided over the investigation into the alleged funding of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, a purported agency the Presidency says does not exist. The Senate has rejected a motion seeking an independent probe into the allocation of over ₦1.3 billion to the alleged agency, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin saying lawmakers will allow anti-graft agencies to complete their investigations. The House of Representatives has taken a different approach, establishing an ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged funding and to engage key officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and the Director-General of the Budget Office.
